Chapter Two : Part One
I shot up in my bed, body covered in sweat. I peeled the covers off of me and sat at the edge of my bed placing my head into my hands. It had all been a dream. Thank God!
My black digital alarm clock sitting on the window shield at the head of my bed read 6:45. My mom was probably off to work already.
With a big sigh, I stood up, grabbing a fresh pair of cloths, and went into the bathroom to take a shower. As I stood under the water, I thought about the dream I had.
Why would I dream of Jeremy biting me? I’ve been watching too many vampire movies. My hand reached up to rub my neck. It felt as if it really happened. I pushed the thought out of my mind and quickly washed up.
When I got out, I looked at the fresh clothes sitting on the bathroom counter. I didn’t even feel like getting dressed. Wrapping a towel around my body, I walked out of the bathroom and down the stairs to start breakfast. It was Saturday after all. No school.
As I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the box of Lucky Charms from the top of the fridge, the house phone rang. I glanced over at the digital clock on the stove. 7:30. Talk about early morning calls.
I grabbed the wireless phone off of it’s charger on the kitchen counter, clicked the on button, and placed it to my ear. “Hello?”
“Hey Stayce.” Jeremy’s smooth voice trailed through the phone, making me stand up straighter.
“Jeremy? Hey… um… how did you get my number?”
“Why? You mad?” I could tell he was smiling.
“No. Just wondering.”
“You left your phone over here last night. Can I come over?”
“Um… yeah. I guess so.”
“Cool. I’ll be there soon.” He hung before I had a chance to respond.
I set the phone back on its charger and walked upstairs to get dressed. Just as I pulled a shirt over my head, the door bell rang. I almost tripped down the stairs as I ran to get the door.
As the door yanked open, I found myself disappointed that it wasn’t Jeremy. With a sigh, I smiled at the guy standing before me. “Hello. May I help you?”
He nodded ever so slightly. “My name…” he paused, smiling as my face filled with fear and curiosity all at once. “is Adam Aluin.”
A million thoughts ran through my mind as I looked up at my attacker from last night. I would remember that faint French accent from any were. So it wasn’t a dream? But why would Jeremy bite me?
He looked down at me, and after I didn’t answer for a while, he spoke again in that sweet, silk like voice. “I need to speak to you.” Before giving me any time to react, he pushed me back into the house, closing the door behind him.
Pulling me along with him, he sat on the couch. His body wasn’t so hot today. It was more of a cozy warm. I didn’t mind him being here… but did he have to sit so close?
He looked at me with his bright blue eyes, smiling his perfect smile. “You remember me, don’t you?” He leaned in closer to me.
I stood up quickly. “Yes. I do. What do you want?”
“Do you really have to ask?” His reflexes were quick. He stood up and held me tightly to him before I could take a step back.
“Let me go.” My voice was even, but it sounded funny. I didn’t sound scarred… it was more of a authoritive tone.
His grip on me loosened and he staggered backwards. “No way. He did it? Already!?”
My face covered in confusion. “Did what? What are you talking about?”
“He did it without telling you!?” His blue eyes were filled with shock as he ran his fingers through is short uncut hair.
“Telling me what?”
“I wonder what you can do…” His sentence trailed off as he smiled a wicked smile at me.
The front door to my house opened and closed and a warm body stood next to me. I knew it was Jeremy, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of Adam.
“What I can do?” I was so lost.
Adams smile had left his face as Jeremy had come in, the fear he held in his eyes forced me to turn around.
Jeremy stood about an inch away from me, making me take two steps away from him. He didn’t seem to notice though. His dark eyes were fixed on Adam, filled with anger, fists balled at his sides.
Seconds later, his body loosened up as he rubbed his eyes with the bass of his palm. I glanced back in Adams direction to find the room empty of his presence. Where did he go?
I felt Jeremy’s arms wrap around me from behind, pulling my close to him. “I really am sorry about last night. I didn’t want to do that so soon.”
My body stiffened from his warm breath against my ear. No matter how much he confused me, I felt drawn to him.
Turning to face him, I took a step back. “I’m lost at this point. What is going on? And where did Adam go?”
Jeremy hesitated before answering. “He’s a messenger.”
“That doesn’t answer my question…”
He pulled me close to him. “I’ll explain it all soon.” His lips brushed against my cheek before he stepped back. “I have to go. Here’s your phone”
I took my silver Cricket flip phone out of his out stretched hand, a questioning expression in my eyes. “Why do you have to go? You just got here.”
“I know. I’ll talk to you later.” And with that, he was out the door.
