I've said this before, but movie producers are running out of ideas, and they are resorting to pretty much making generic movies or movies that really have no need to be made in the first place.
Sadly, this one falls into the latter. Asteroids was one of the most popular arcade games to ever exist. And what was it about? You were a triangle with another triangle cut out of the back end, shooting at giant rocks. Nothing more, but it sucked you right in. No story either, this was before plot existed in gaming.
So, how do you make a movie out of this? Maybe it'll be a movie about one man's daring struggle to destroy the asteroids that will wipe out the Earth! Oh wait, there's a whole fucking t.v. series that's already on that. (Meteor, the TV series. There isn't a wikipedia article up for it, so incase you're interested...)
Let's see...... Yeah, that's pretty much all they could possibly come up with for a plot.
What's your take on this?
Edit: OH!!! What about Asteroids searched on wikipedia?? In popular media..... Asteroid! A movie made in 1997!!
Just... WHY!?!
