This is just somthing that occured to me out of the blue, but we have reports from every console maker that their system is planned to have a 10 year lifespan, meaning we won't see anything for 3 more years before news of the next hardware starts.

However, this leads me to wonder if maybe this will be a continuing trend. This first started with the Ps2 console, which to this day is still played and remains the #1 console seller of all time, and has either approuched, passed or is about to hit the 10 year mark.

Anyway, we have each console looking to have 10 year lifespans. So, no new console till 2015. Will this continue to be a trend though? The consoles haven't gotten that much more expensive in terms to the cost of previous consoles, but they are much more expensive today when you consider inflation and economic issues. So long as the economy is a factor, the companies will try to get as much profit from their console as possible before they begin anew. This way, it'd be easier to convince people to have a new hardware upgrade, is when the current console is totally spent. So, I think we may see this continue so long as the consoles get more and more advanced.

What's your thought though?

I think that's a nice observation you made there. I do believe this will continue though because the companies keep getting crazy and good ideas on what to add next. But soon they will have made a system so awesome that they will have nothing better to add anymore and that will be the end of it. But that is still a long ways from now.

I've made this observation before and will say that yes. This trend shall keep at it the way it is.

I hope that it becomes a reality, because while I love my consoles, I really get tired of buying a new one every 3-5 years, and with inflation and the cost of new technologies being designed for these game consoles, I really don't like the odds that the next console would be under $800.

This is great for us buyers b/c hell i am tired of buying systems but you can't really get better than what we got right now. Do we really need anything with better graphics than the ps3 it is the closest thing to a perfect system all it needs is games. Sure wii and xbox could be improved system wise. i am glad they will not have another system for awhile.

Well, there are those upgrade motion sensor stuffs from sony and microsoft that look to keep the old system but add stuff onto it- that seems to be the plan right now.
