That's right, it's almost summer, and in the gamer world summer means a return of one of the biggest gaming events of the year, E3 (Short for Electronic Entertainment Expo).

This is quietchat, who will be hosting the threads. Last year I put everything together in the same thread, but this year I'll be making separate discussion threads for each of the conferences from the big 3 and one more thread simply for games and anouncements.

Remember, the event officially starts June 2nd and goes to June 4th. Each of the press conferences by Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and 2 others (Still haven't figured out who the last two are from) will take place June 1st and early in the day before the E3 building is opened up.

For those of you who are interested, G4tv became the official broadcaster of the E3 event, so if you have that channel then you'll be able to see all of the press conferences live along with previews demos interviews and more from the multiple game developers.

http://www.e3expo.com/press/post/441/g4-named-official-broadcaster-of-2009-electronic-entertainment-expo-securing-unprecedented-television-rights-to-gaming-industrys-biggest-event

If you don't, well you can still see them on the website www.g4tv.com as they are being streamed, just be sure you know the times and stuff.

Other good sites to go to for information are ign.com, kotaku.com, 1up.com, (for the first time) screwattack.com, or you could just wait a month for all the magazine publishers to come out with their E3 issue (But I don't think anyone's actually gonna do that).

With all that covered, let's get to what you actually care about: Rumors, games, whatnot.

What games are you hoping to see at this year's E3 event? What rumors have got you excited? Are you disapointed that Capcom Japan, Square-Enix (And it's new property Edios) Japan and Koei japan will have somewhat weaker showings due to swine flu fears? And what about Blizzard's choice not to make an appearance at all this year? (Not related to swine flu)

And lastly, what will happen at the Big 3 conferences? Will Sony be able to pull out from it's several years of 3 place? Can anything topple the wii? Will Nintendo really focus all about the games this year? And does Microsoft have somthing that will actually get the japanese market interested?

http://kotaku.com/5147577/no-blizzard-will-not-be-at-e3-this-year

This just in: It is still true that Blizzard games will not be making an appearance, but Activision will despite the merger with Blizzard to become Activision Blizzard (Yes, that's the actual joint name). http://kotaku.com/5271593/activision-reveals-its-e3-2009-lineup

And something I probably should have mentioned: While there are companies that are limiting travel because of the swine flu fears, that doesn't mean they're going to be absent. Capcom for example as a European and American division that will be at the show. The only game that won't be shown at E3 from Capcom due to the virus scares is Dead Rising 2 (Ironically, since it was a virus in the first game that caused the zombie stuff)

Firstly, let me get this out of my system: I AM AVOIDING ALL CAPCOM, SQUARE ENIX, SEGA GAMES. I am looking forward to a number of games, namely Mass Effect2, Alan Wake, and Rage. Also, I am sure there will be a surprise from M$, they've got an exclusive "AAA" title.

Do you know if their will be anything on the Onlive system?

There might be, I haven't heard much since GDC so it may not make an appearance, since E3 is game focused and not so much tech focused.

I wonder if they are going to do something with the release of the new Assassins Creed game.

http://kotaku.com/5271394/ubisoft-narrows-release-dates-for-splinter-cell-red-steel-rest-of-years-line+up

To answer your question aki, Ubisoft came out with a somewhat unspecific (But still timeline narrowing) chart of when their games will be released for the next 2 years (Did they get the FY10 and FY9 backwards??)

So far though we've only seen screenshots and several teasers for Assassin's Creed 2. Assassin's Creed 1 got alot of attention though several years ago at E3, so hopfully we'll see a demonstration of the new weapons, gliding, swimming and duel assassination wrist blades.

Do you mean the PSP Go? Or do you just refuse to call it that?

On that note we should get those rumors going some more.

For example, one biggie is that Sony has completed a slim PS3, but it won't make an appearance at E3. The reason given in the rumor is that they want to use up their stocks of current PS3 units before the announce a new slim version, because then they'll have a bunch of consoles that won't sell as people wait for the (Assumably) better model. Is there really a slim version coming? If so will it really not make any appearance?

Next, Microsoft released their 360 a year sooner than Nintendo or Sony, so will that come back to mean that they reveal their new console a year sooner too? This rumor says that Microsoft will show off their next generation console in some way at the show. Would it be too early? Will it make an appearance?

Again with Microsoft, they officially announced their Zune HD which will have gaming capabilities. Can the Zune actually enter the handheld market with the insanely successful gameboy and DS line taking the top spots in sales? Could it even compare with Sony's PSP line? Or will it go down like N-Gage?

Nintendo needs to make a new big game and get it out to the hardcore market, which they promised to focus more on at this years E3. They already announced a new Pikmin title last year, but you know they are going to have somthing else. With big names Mario, Link, and Samus all having their turn on the wii, and with Animal Crossing and Brawl having a release as well on the wii, what franchise will Nintendo work on next? Will it be the long awaited return of Kid Icarus? Will Donkey Kong or Kirby finally get a new adventure game? (Note that on gamecube Kirby only had a racing game, and Donkey Kong spent his time on the bongos since Donky Kong 64)

If you can think of any other good rumors post them, or you can give your opinions on the rumors I have up there.

RUMOR:
Destructoid dropped a mind grenade on gamers by relaying a rumor from a "very reliable source" that a sequel to Valve's zombie co-op game, Left 4 Dead, will make an E3 appearance. I've contacted Valve for comment -- denial or otherwise -- but have yet to hear back from the studio.

Valve has not publicly discussed its E3 presence (or lack thereof), though the rumor mill has continued to hope against hope Half-Life: Episode 3 makes a long-desired debut. No one's been predicting Valve would roll out a follow-up to Left 4 Dead so quickly, but even if the existence of more Left 4 Dead is true, much remains unanswered. Is it a downloadable expansion, akin to Rockstar's The Lost and Damned, or a full-fledged, Valve-has-been-working-on-this-for-a-while sequel?

At Microsoft's E3 press conference last year, Valve promised new Portal levels exclusively for Xbox 360.

According to the official E3 website, Valve has secured a meeting room at E3 ("Meeting Room #501C"). It will not have an actual "booth." The E3 website lists Valve being booked under both two names -- Valve and Valve Corporation. It's certainly possible Valve is attending E3 for two different reasons, with "Valve" handling media appointments (for whatever is being announced at the show) and "Valve Corporation" coordinating business meetings with retail and otherwise, but until E3 actually rolls around, it's hard to say.

Because it's E3 and because it's fun, let's just assume is 100% real and will debut next week. What are we going to see?

Seems like there's a ton of sony's things being leaked out lately. If only we could get half of that effort put to figuring out what Nintendo has ready.

Okay everyone this is a reminder that June 1st (Tommorrow for me, today for some) is the first day of the E3 previews, and I even managed to learn who is doing the 2 other press conferences other from the Big 3: Ubisoft and EA (Who could have guessed?)

Anyway, once again: I will be making separate discussion threads for each of the press conferences. I will cover every company if I have to but I'd like for some help. If you would like to offer help, leave me a comment and I'll tell you what you can do: This is fully dependant however that you are able to actually see the conferences on T.V. so that you can get the full experience. After the 5th thread is made I'll be making one more for the actual event that will be to discuss just the games previews and so on.
