ahh well I got to watch some international news. the world is in a kind of panic cause North Korea has been testing nukes and short range missiles. I wanna know what the remains of the AF community think. My country's news sucks. North Korea might be planning on wars and stuff. and the only think on our news is a stupid sex scandal.

I think it's stupid that people are in a fuss about it. So what, they are testing nukes and missiles, ok. The United States tests nukes and missiles all the time, do other countries report on them constantly? Now if North Korea actually starts shooting these nukes and missiles at other countries, that's fine to make a big deal about, that's the beginning of a war. Maybe North Korea is doing it to prepare for a future war. Or more likely, they are just doing it because they know it will get them media attention because people like to cause a ruckus about something that goes on all the time in other countries with no consequence.

Korea has sanctions on it already from the last few tests and they're pretty dependant on aid from other countries. It could be like what I've read on Cracked.com, they do it so that they can freak out other nations and agree to quit in exchange for aid and food or somthing.

Idea two is that they want to hit japan, considering they launched a missle several years ago that had the ability to reach them.

Idea three is that they are worried that another nation may try to invade them, and having reputation for owning nukes and missles would be an incentive to avoid that.

Idea four, who gives a shit? Let the chinese deal with them since they hand out most of that aid anyway.

I think US shouldn't freak out. US is very hypocritical, it pisses me off that I even live in this country. I mean, US has the most weapons because US expands their military power, constantly. US has the most nukes and the most nuclear wastes.

Also, Japan is freaking out because those few nukes can pretty much sink that island.
After all, Korea and Japan still have feuds amongst themselves. I don't care much about it, neither do my parents, but the gov't is the problem here. China..well, China always helped out N. Korea, but lately, it seems that they think N.K. is some psychotic country that they want nothing to do with.
Other than that, I think S.Korea is perfectly fine. They have one of the toughest military, and Korea will probably get aid from the US, probably Japan as wwell, and maybe other countries.

On the contrary, I think there might be a war...a small one, maybe. It's not as if their nukes and missles can reach the UK or France.

I think that the U.S has no reason to worry. Considering how many allies and the amount of fire power we have over Korea, they won't do anything.Korea wants to keep thier country alive ,not dead. Also The U.S does this ritualy, so how can they hop to so many conclusions about Korea without first assesing themselves. And if war was to brake out, Korea would surely lose due to thier positioning. And the fact that we would nuke the shit out of them from South Korea..

There are numerous nuclear holding countries, and yet N. Korea is the only one people whine over when a nuke is tested. They're not going to bother America, because as arrogant as they may seem they know they wouldn't win. The only really plausible explanation is what quiet said thirdly. They're just talking big to keep anyone from bothering them. If you're in a room full of edgy people with guns, and you've got a gun too, wouldn't you let people know you've got one and it works, so that you're not seen as the weak Korean nerd with big glasses and retarded clothes?

still i go back to my point, would you rather want someone to step in and make sure they don't do anything horrible, or do you want the country that could prove to be a threat launch the missiles, and then complain on the forums, to your friends and family why the government didn't step in? i'm not saying N. Korea would do this, since what's his face wants all the publicity before he dies.

they can't do anything anyway. If they did launch a nuke at the US it'd be intercepted and blown up over the pacific. To be followed swiftly by the obliteration of N. Korea from the world map. Don't forget there are folks all over the world thinking the same thing back at America, that since they have nukes they should be stopped before they use them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_Nuclear-Test-Ban_Treaty

Here's a read for you guys. There has been an international treaty that's existed since the 60's that would ban nuclear testing (I always thought that it was already in effect, though the article says it isn't).

That's one reason why, however, the U.S. and the U.N. and NATO and anything else you can think of is pissed off with North Korea, is that they are performing this tests against the treaty (I can't tell if they signed it, I don't know where Korea is on the map given, in that jumble of smaller counties below China).

So, that's one thing you have against them. Second up, is that any nation with a nuclear warhead can use it as a bargaining chip. For those of you who are paying attention to the news, Japan has become a target apparently for Korea's hostillity, since all of their long range missles get shot towards them. For those of you who know your history, Japan is the only nation to have ever had a nuclear weapon used against them, and happens to be the only world power that does not have nukes. So, you got another reason to freak out. Any other nation that Korea would want to use their nukes on wouldn't have enough time to set up missle to missle air defenses by the time we figured out who they wanted to target, and setting them up at sea makes N. Korea pissed off (As shown by the recent news story where they said that ships in the waters nearby was a sign of war).

So, everyone in N. Korea's goverment is crazy loony whacko and anyone that could secure a nuke would actually be quite a bit threat..... to somebody.

Its kinda funny, there was a documentary on Japan and what happened in the 40's and when they went around and asked any middle aged to young Japanese people, they had no idea that they were bombed, or they don't care that they were bombed. I think it has to do with their mentality on the whole thing. They know they got bombed but the government must have decided that it would be better if the populace were trained to believe that even though they were at fault about it, let's just live our lives as if it didnt happen.

I've read some previous posts on here saying that the United States as well as the world should not worry about N.Korea's nuclear weapons testing. Some of the points made were something along the lines of:
1. "They're only testing weapons, when they actually fire them at other countries, THEN we can worry."
2. "We shouldn't worry because if a war breaks out, North Korea will definitely lose, and we can nuke the shit out of em from South Korea anyway"
3. "America is such a hypocrite, we test nuclear weapons all the time, yet we freak out when someone else does the same thing."

I would have to strongly disagree with all three statements. My response to each:

1. If it a deathtoll in the hundred thousands or more, and a good 50 years at least of irradiated wasteland yielding generation after generation of genetically defected people is what it takes to make you worry, then I'm glad you're not a politician. Concern should be expressed BEFORE the situation turns deadly, not during or after. This is why the world freaked out during the Cold War.

2. Although you are right that we can pretty much win an easy war against North Korea even without the use of nukes, you've overlooked two important details:
a) If it weren't for China, the Korean War would not have ended in armistice. In other words, there would be no North Korea. And if China and the U.S. get in direct conflict in this day and ago, a resulting WW3 happens without a doubt.
b) Dropping a nuke on the Korean Peninsula will only destroy the ENTIRE KOREAN PENINSULA, and the effects may spread to the surrounding sea and China. Even if it doesn't spread that far, South Korea (mind you they are ALLIES) will definitely feel it too. Kim Jong Il, knowing that a nuclear weapon dropped in North or South Korea will devastate both countries, still doesn't mind calling the shot, even if it kills him and his entire country in the blast. Hence the reason why KIM JONG IS IS FUCKING CRAZY.

3. Congratulations. You have a feel for the concept of hypocrisy. However, the US has made it very clear that its purpose is to 'spread and maintain freedom around the world', and even if that is a half bullshit excuse to do whatever they want, it still means that we have enough sense not to abuse our nuclear weapons program, because we of all people should know the consequences of dropping WMDs. But as earlier stated, KIM JONG IL IS FUCKING CRAZY, and we can't just sit here and be calm about it when HIS country tests nukes. Countries all over the world have nuclear weapons programs, and even though they get the attention of our news teams as well as our intelligence agencies, they don't bother us as much as hostile countries do, you see what I'm saying? It's common sense. North Korea is a fucking psycho.

I really think you guys underestimated the destructive force of nuclear weapons on a grand scale, and I hope my lengthy post sparked something.
In regards to Kim Jong's retirement/death, he's declared that he will always be dictator of N. Korea even in death...do you see why Kim Jong and his followers are madmen? Even after he's gone, you will still have a fucked up country, and we will probably still have to have a full blown war in order to free its people.

Well, I just seen on the news this morning that North Korea has sentenced two American journalists to 12 years of some program or something. They snuck into the country and got caught. They are sending Al gore over their to negotiate their release. If you ask me, I think North Korea is asking for a war they cannot win.
