I'm not emo, I like to be cheerful and smile a lot, in one word SUNSHINE.
If I would be like the emos my friends would think that I will hang myself up in 1 min. I can become easily depressed if it comes to my family and friends and it shocks others it's so not like me. And I don't know emo songs... to be honest I listen good old pop songs. I enjoy them more.

You know me so well ;)

And I am an emo, have a problem with it? I'm not your traditional depressed 24/7 kinda emo, I'm a revolutionary. I stand for who I am which has gotten me hurt many times and caused me to be emotionally unstable which is why I carry the title of 'EMO'

Thats a big negative on that one ghost rider. I dont like the idea of feeling sorry for myself 24/7 and if I have a problem rather it be emotinal or just pure anger than I confront it not hide behind the makup!!!

Emo is an overused stereotype. I understand people use it and all, but its human nature to get a bit depressed during times.
Some people are just overly emotional and can cry over anything, doesnt mean they are "emo". Its more of just some sort of style and label nowadays, and its starting to get annoying.

Hmm. . . Well emo acually mean overly emotional. And I was just called emo today at school cause I was having issues with thy ex and ended up cry and my friend Rich said I'm emo.
And I've tried to kill myself once.
I dunno' I don't think I am, but I kinda dress like emo's do. . .SOmetimes. . More punk for me than anything for me.
I'm also kinda one who likes to go around and cheer random people up.

So be the judge, do you think I'm emo?

Depends on what type of emo you are talking about. Since emo means emotional, I'd be a yes, mostly because of anime, manga, and games.

If you are talking about the goth-like emo. Lets see. My favorite color is black. My second favorite color is red. I like it when it's dark. I like being alone. I feel more alive at night than durring the day. I sleep with my whole body being covered. Blood does not bother me. Also, I tend to like more sad-ish music, like "Lilium" from "Elfen Lied"
I sound more like a vampire now, don't I?
Anyhow, in a small way, I am emo.

Luckily for me, absolutely not. Most people who know me for real would know that I'm too optimistic to ever become a full-fledged emo kid. Now, of course, EVERYONE suffers from the occasional depression, such as what I am going through now. But it will go away in a matter of days, just like my depression that anime conventions are over D:

Everyone is going to go through some sort of depression in there lives rather its a family member dying, or a friend getting hurt in an accident. Yea we will all be hurt but that will gradually grow out of us and move on. Those of you who are emotionally emo need to grows some balls and get over yourselfs and stop feeling sorry for yourself in order to draw in attention from others.

Does wearing black clothes, a black leather duster and listening to a lot of rock/depressing music = emo?

Partially. Take away everything but the music and you have a yes. The rest - no.

Does the above + (slicing of wrists), having depressive/unstable thoughts = emo?

Not necessarily. A lot of people that listen to the above can be classified as emo's, but it really refers to music rather than to your inner feelings. It is the music style that is labelled emo, not the people. Yes, yes, I know that lately the terminology has been switched, but really, emo originally refers to a music style, not being overly angst-ridden >___>

Emo is, according to wikipedia, the following. I quote (original link here, if anyone cares to read it through: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo ):

Emo is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore" and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. As the style was echoed by contemporary American punk bands, its sound and meaning shifted and changed, blending with pop punk and indie rock and encapsulated in the early 1990s by groups such as Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate. By the mid 1990s numerous emo acts emerged from the Midwestern and Central United States, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the style.

That said, I like the music that is revolved around "emo," but other than that... no.

I feel that alot of people are bashing the emo title

To me being an emo doesn't have to do with cutting wrists, depressing thoughts and everything else. To me, the term has to do with your state of mind and state of emotional stability. Although I have given myself a little cut on my upper arm NOT wrist and I have tried suicide a few times in the past but I believe that it just made me the person I am today; an emotional person

Lets see Black Clothes : Check
Black hair : nope.
Cuts self : not unless I'm really drunk... normally after breaking a bottle and forgetting to clean it up.
Emotional music : check, what music isn't emotional?
Constantly depressed : nope, I have my bad days like anyone else

I guess I'm not 'Emo'. I'm just me.

Like what was already said, its normal for people to cry, and every once in a while, your going to feel a bit depressed in life. its what i said, its life.
Just cause you wear a black t-shirt and listen to a certain band doesnt make you somebody.

people are overly emotional, hell an old lady can be suicidal, shall we call her an emo? its just human nature, and some people are "weaker" ( for lack of a better word ) than others, so they are overly emotional, and some people are born with mental problams/or conditions. its not their fault.
i think its lame that some stupid 12 year old called my sister and emo cause she died her hair darker. its ridiculous that clueless children are throwing around the word, without knowing anything.
i dont use labels like that to label someone ( like emo, goth, prep) never have, never will.
