Maelyn nodded, and Light guided her to the room. Light held the door open for Maelyn, and she noticed a machine in the center of the room. The machine was more of a table, but it had gadgets all around it. Light led Maelyn to the machine and directed her to lie on the table.
Light explained the basics of the machine. “This machine is extremely special, and was I gift a dear friend gave me. A complicated spell has been placed on the machine, allowing it to remove curses, such as the one Black Witch placed on you and Prince Sky. A bright light will come from the machine and hit your body. I promise that the light will not harm you in any way. However, you need to wear these glasses to protect your eyes.”
Light handed Maelyn a pair of glasses which were extremely thick and made her eyes look twice as big.
Light then lowered the lights in the room and pulled a lever on the side of the machine. Suddenly, a bright light hit Maelyn. The glasses protected her eyes from the harsh light, and Maelyn was thankful for them. After two minutes, the procedure was over. Maelyn sat up very slowly and felt weird at first. Light smiled and gave her a glass of water. After taking a few sips, Maelyn felt like her old self but with a fox ears and tail to add to it. She still felt odd with this but there pretty much nothing she could do now. Then Light took her back to the large room. All the others were waiting for them. They asked Light and Maelyn if they were ok.
Light said, “Yes, the two of us are fine. However, I would like to introduce you to Fox Girl!”
All the creatures began to welcome her. Maelyn was stunned by what Light had said. When the shock wore off, Maelyn became awfully upset. How could Light call her such a thing? It was hard enough for Maelyn to deal with the ears and the tail, but now she had a new name, too? She gave the others a fake smile and motioned to Light to follow her out of the room.
When the two had privacy, Maelyn angrily said, “Light, my name is Maelyn. Why on moon beams did you call me ‘Fox Girl’ in front of the others?”
Maelyn was frustrated, and Light placed her hand on her shoulder. The two sat side by side on a bench in the hallway.
Light said, “I apologize for surprising you, but I called you ‘Fox Girl’ because you are no longer just ‘Maelyn’. You have changed, and ‘Maelyn’ is not an appropriate name for you now.”
Maelyn shook her head, saying, “But why should you have to change my name because I look different? I am the same Maelyn that I have always been, right?”
Light gave her a small smile. “You have changed, my dear. You must realize that you are no longer Maelyn, the gardener, but that you are Fox Girl now. You are becoming more like a fox than you know. For now, you have fox ears and a fox tail, but soon, you will become more and more like a fox. Your eye sight will improve, and so will your hearing. People will no longer see you as a young girl.”
