I like this topic. And first ask why do humans even need a reason to exist. All we do is destroy. Every thing we have done up to this point has had a negative effect in some way. There are more reasons why we should just stop existing. And there is no reason for our existance. It may be debatable but up to this point there is no higher power pushing us to complete a task or believe in something. The only thing we can do is exist like we already have.

i....i do really understand your reasoning & logic but.......with all this bad stuff going on in the world it makes me question my self ''why did god put us on earth, why did he give those choose's to adam & eve to eat from the tree of knowledge'' why does war have to take place in this world.....
and so much more answers i need to know......
sometimes i wonder if there is even a heaven or hell......
and if there is then......then i know i'am going to hell..........

Well wars or raged for much different reasons then they were before. It use to be holy wars in witch they would fight to protect or force their religion on people. And now it is run off of peoples ideals. But some question if it for the money rush but either way wars will rage as long as humans exist.

"As long as there is people, there will always be war" [I actually stole that quote from MGS xD]
But people is kinda the war itself.
And heaven or hell are just terms that the human being made up to have a concept of good and evil.
Even god was made by the human being. Just think: If god is THAT almighty, then why the hell did he create us, imperfect beings that would be able to commit sins and betray EVEN him? did he just want to have fun with us? I don't think such a perfect being wants to have fun like a little kid..
But if you think from a different perspective, you should enjoy life while you are at it. In place of being depressed about "oh I'm going to hell" just go and have fun, enjoy the life that you've been given. Go.
NOW!!
Just kidding I won't mess with you life xD Think whatever you want.

I guess you can rack us up for each being a loser :( . Everybody's going to have their own different perspective on this, however minute, but they'll likely be wrong. Well wrong in the sense that they can't say they're right. My philosophy is, while it's ok to stop and ponder the infinite, don't get stuck there, because you'll miss out on the finite life you have.

You shouldn't insult people in your first page if you want an actual response that doesn't involve yelling at you for the comment.
As for why humans exist, we don't have a reason. We simply exist for the sake of existing, and we live on for the sake of living.Everything else in life is simply a way to try and explain what has no real explanation.

Calling me a loser? That was stupid...
Why do humans exist? I believe we exist to do a certain thing. What that "thing" is, is completely up to you. Whether that thing be jumping off a cliff to die, or to start killing. Or even to protect someone, or live a "normal" subdued life.

Why do we exist? To enjoy life of course, that and to procreate and keep on living,

We exist for the simple reason of propagating life. The only problem with that is we are running out of room for more of us on this planet. Too many people = more aggravation = more war.
All questions answered. Can we go back to discussing anime and subjects related to anime? Leave the philosophy for the philosophers and the theology the the theologians.
I completely agree with partyprobe, we really have not justified our existence as of yet. We have proven to be destroyers more than creators or preservers if anything, and it will more than likely stay like this unless there is some sort of drastic change coming soon. Furthermore, I to believe that we are simply here to live the way we have been living, and there is no true reasoning behind our existence, or at least anything truly deep and moving. For one of my philosophy papers I had to answer a similar question and played devils advocate by saying "do we really exist?" I argued our very existence as I speculated that we are not complete entities and are not able to distinguish what is real and what is fake, and until we are able to do so we can not fully evolve/exist into what we are meant to be. This meaning that we are essentially living in a world that we want to be in and we simply can not go against actuality and reality to prevent what is happening or get past the fake world that is presented before us. However, this is all mere speculation of course, and holds no precedence as it was me simply playing devils advocate as I do not truly believe this theory of mine. In fact I find it to be too far of a stretch and inane, however I received an A if it's any consolation.

We exist simply because natural selection has evolved us into what we are now, and our freedom of thought has allowed us to make up a lot of propaganda and stupid traditions that we know and love.
As for love, it's just a dirty trick played on the human race to increase our population; our free-thought just allows us to think of it as something more.
/I may or may not believe any of that.

First off, seeing as how there has yet to be a set decision as to why humans exist you have effectively called everyone on AF a loser. So for that you fail. Second, shouldn't this belong in like the therapy thread since your looking for your own definition of why humans, yourself specifically, exist?

I find your theory very interesting! How can we define our purpose since we are not even able to define our very existence? But if we keep going we are going to get a bit off topic!
Now, why do humans exist? Well personally, I think that humanity as a whole has a purpose or else our existence would be pointless right? I don't know what it is though and I might never know...
But humans as individuals have a purpose too. As Ryuuzaki said, it might be just living a happy life, protecting another person or even leading a whole nation to glory. Who knows...?
About God, if we accept He exists then we can't just guess why he created us. It would be selfish of us to say that we are smart enough to comprehend a being such as God and His reasons of doing certain things.

If you must know the real reason why we exist you MUST enter the shimokai state, a state of mind where one can perceive all dimensions at once. Once you are in this state you must control your flow of energy least they disperse through the cosmos. After you have gained a semblance of control you will be able to see the endless interacting roads that make up the entire universe and you will be able to see the road we humans are on and from there you can see what it is that actually made us and what our true purpose is. Of course if you really want to do this you must have a large mana pool available (minimum of 1,000,000), the Tool of Farnif and the Hand of Kotackjo, and finally the help of a demi-god and risk the chance of turning into a bug for entering the realm of the elder gods. Also if you can actually find the Toenail Clipper of Joe the Plumber you can actually traverse the universe's road and go to anyplace and anytime you wish. If none of this made sense THEN YOU ARE NOT WORTHY.

ok ok ok, if you really must know the truth. Humans have the ability to make large amounts of wax coming from the ears, nose, finger and toes and hair. This wax is used by many alien species as their main form of energy for their hyperdrives. Think of us as spice from the Dune universe. We are the only species that can create the certain type of wax and ours is the only planet we live on.

I believe we exist for something in this world and the reason why we do is to find. The truth is if God put us here then he knew already what we are capable of so he has no right to judge us since he gave us teh possiblity of sin is that not a sin in it self. And worse comes to worse we will all be in hell so really it will be just a really hot version of Heaven unless of course its like the movie "What Dreams May Come" then Hell is going to be one depressing place. Awsome movie for those on a existential trip by the way.

Of course God knows what we're capable of. Why do you think he sent his son to die for us? He knew we would fall from grace, so he gave us a way out. And whether you like it or not, God is going to judge you and me and every other human being on this miserable little planet. And Hell is really nothing compared to the Seven Plagues that are going to be poured out from the golden vials containing the Wrath of God in the last days.

WOW how christian of you. Faith through fear gotta ,ove it or else you burn in eternal hell fire. Come on the main christian belief is that God is all powerful, all knowing and morally perfect. so he has the knowledge of every evil thing that is gog to happen and had previous knowledge of evils from the past. If he judgees me fine i dont care his perfect morality can go screw himself. He sat back while Jews where slaughtered during WW2 and he also was there watching when the towers hit as well as when people were deciding to go to war especially this bullshit war where soldiers die because of some power hungry administration in the white house. DONT preach to me about being judged. Eternal Hell fire will be nothing i will just use my hatred of a GOD who is supposed to be morally perfect but is also perfectly content with letting the world and the children he supposedly loves equally. IF this God exists then it seems pretty prevely he hates us and therefore none of us are going to Heaven and we all burn with his favorite Angel Lucifer who also could not exist without the "Power" of God.
sorry to every one else I really am a nice dude. I just hate the theory of faith through fear when God sent his only son to preach faith through love just another logical Fallacy of the human understanding about God.

WOW FlrcntKnht you were rough, weren't you!?! That's quite the heated debate huh?
But I don't think SmokedBoo meant that we should believe in God because we will burn in hell if not!
I don't agree though with what you said. God gave us a choice of staying pure or committing sins. I believe we can stay good if we want to but we can turn evil easier. It's a trial. The ones who resist the temptation of committing sins will be somehow rewarded. People call it heaven in christianity. You can call however you like but I think it is totally fair to be treated differently from a person who stole, killed or murdered, don't you think so too?
Now about all the killings and wars... well what did you expect? God coming down from heaven and commanding the "bad guys" to stop? Humans brought all these evils upon humanity themselves. It was their actions alone that created this. God is a silent watcher not because he doesn't care about his creations but because he would take our freedom of choice away by interfering. I am not saying the Jews brought war upon themselves or something outrageous as that. What I am really trying to say is that God is able to give them back what they lost in other ways. That might be by sending them to heaven or something like that. I cannot really claim to comprehend God's thoughts and actions but this is what I believe in any case. Besides, He sent Jesus to help us. He gave us another choice, even if we have sinned, He will forgive us if we repent for our sins. Isn't that showing mercy?
Well that's it for this post. I hope it wasn't too tiring! Just a question though FlrcntKnht. From what I understood from your post, you do believe God exists, right?

Um..... actually, he gave us free will. The ability to make a choice and a decision between right and wrong. Also arguing over this is pointless because everyone has their own beliefs. To be honest you can't really say for sure why we are here.

I don't think we have any original sin. When we are born, we are perfectly pure. Our actions from then onwards determine how good or evil we become.
Are we close to convincing you???

The apostle Paul brought it up since the fall of man which was Adam and Eve eating the apples and being cast out of eden. It basically says you are a sin to be born. It is not said in the bibles right out but impied. I am not versed in this but while i agree people have the choice God is also considered to be perfect and therefore knows past present and future so it is already known if you are going to be a sinner or not. These are off course mainly mono-theistic views of God Today. the original sin is only a Christain view though.

Hmm, I need to reread that part of the Bible. I don't remember it very clearly.
But time is a strange concept. Some people say it is the fourth dimension. In Matrix, something very interesting came up. They said that we have already made all the choices, now we just have to live and understand why we made them. It is a fascinating concept but I must say it is very hard, maybe even impossible, for the human mind to completely grasp it! I guess to understand it we need to define time first, which is kind of hard! Well, but imagine a 2D being trying to picture how 3D looks like. I think it would be impossible, and in this case, we would be his gods!!! So, it might be impossible for us to comprehend how God perceives the world and Time! Which means that we truly might have a choice. Of course, we might be some incredibly predictable beings too :oo:
FlrcntKnht
03-04-2009, 03:53 AM
Time is the 4th dimension in math and i know it is hard to imagine for some people. looking at a sphere without the dimension of time means that you are looking at something in a superposition relative to time. This means to add teh element of time is to bring it into existence. I agree with you about the idea of the 2D being tryign to understand the 3D being its truly something that is mind boggling. I think that i can agree with all that you have said in your previous statement. I have no smartass pokes at it. Actually i have to say that I have just seen the movie "The Fountain" and Jeez that really gets your mind rolling in the idea of time and its possibility of reincarnation as well as the ability to transcend time.

Simple as can be. The world was created, with small, microscopic aquatic organisms swimming about on their merry way. Eventually, these organisms begin to mutate and evolve, eventually to fish, then eventually to fish with legs, eventually to other animals, and so on. Then, we get this diverse amount of animals in their primal state, including us humans, also in our primal, unevolved, unsivilized state. Then, as the years continue to go by, we begin to evolve faster than other animals to become the more intelligent, more emotional, more sivilized beings we are today.

OP - your first post seems a little hurried. Surely you don't expect to get a real "answer"? You get guesses--all this is would be food for thought.
Personally, as said before, I don't think we've truly discovered a purpose yet. Scientifically, it's just our nature to reproduce and expand. Now, being a dreamer, I hope that there's always an expansion upon what we thought to be true.
Look back in the generations and you'll see that worldly accepted things have been proved wrong, outdated, or just altogether seen immoral. A lot of people, because they live in the present, seem to think that the things today will stay that way--and if it changes, well damn, it'll only be for the worse!
But I'll try to remain hopeful. I've had a nagging feeling for a while now that one day, the planet as a whole is going to come to a decisive juncture in which everyone will be put at risk. Whether humanity rises to the challenge and finds purpose? Well, I guess we'll have to wait and see...or, maybe not. ;)

Week old, but I'll put my simple opinion about this subject here
My religion aside...I don't think we have predestined purpose before us. We just do what other living things do, and that is to survive and flourish. If anything, we are just better manipulators of our environment than others, that's why we are in most of the globe...
I think we just seek "purpose" in our race because two things (more or none):
1) We feel we are the ONES, chosen to be the beginning and the end.
2) We can also say seek something to be exempted from that vicious cycle of nature's death and rebirth, that's why we seek some answers.

Ok, well here are my two cents. For whomever may care to read them
Our existence has no purpose a the the beginning of life, rather, we create a significant path by our selves, thus creating a purpose. We do not exist to get to a specific destination, we are here to carve a path through which others will look at the existence of themselves, creating their own. There is no destiny, luck, or purpose, just a series of random events that we interpret as our lives.
So live as you like, and please avoid senseless questions
