They've done it. They've gone and released a trailer for Mass Effect already!
Here's the trailer on the official website- http://masseffect.bioware.com/teaser/index.html
Here's wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_Effect_2
Concept art - http://www.eurogamer.pt/gallery.php?game_id=10939&article_id=424024#anchor
Possibly heading to PS3?- http://secondstorygamer.com/2009/02/mass-effect-2-trailer-series-headed-ps3/
Excerpt from wiki article - "Casey Hudson, Project Director for BioWare, has said that players should keep their Mass Effect save-files,[2] because decisions made by the player in the first game will continue to have influences on their character in the sequel."
How awesome is that?
I'm so excited about this

That looks so cool, I can't wait for it to be released. But what rumors are you talking about? This game has been confirmed as being in production for the last year or so. But back to the great trailer, it looks good, but I can't see them really killing him off after saying when production on the sequel began that they would be carrying over choices made in the first one. Who else would you play for example, I can't really see it carrying over with just his original party members trying to avenge him, kill the geth and wipe out the reapers. Still I wish this game were coming out a lot sooner. And of course the proposed third game after it.

Oh, well I never knew the game was written in stone, so I assumed the second was rumoured. Oh well, that's my bad. You also mention a 3rd game? I'm guessing that's EA's idea, though not a bad one. Let's see how this one turns out, and hopefully there won't be ingame advertisements-- EA is quite notorious for doing things like that. (I'm looking at you, Burnout Paradise)

The third game was one of those tentative announcements when BioWare first released Mass Effect, they stated that the game series was planned as a trilogy, however that statement was revised after the phenomenal sales and reviews the first game received shortly after release, saying now that while they still plan a trilogy, they will extend the series as long as they are able, essentially turning this into a space going version of MGS or another type of Halo.

A small bit--and not one unpredictable. But I can't help but get jittery over any new news.
And Corwin--I hadn't heard that the series could possibly extend past a trilogy. At the present, that sounds amazing to me. But that will obviously end up depending on how the second Mass Effect plays out...And truth be told, if Shepard is actually dead as the teaser shows (I have no doubt that he is alive), I might end up passing up on it to save myself from more grief!

Well I'm still looking forward to this, I don't think they can kill off Shepard since the game focuses on him a lot, although that's not to say he isn't completely expendable, I just don't think they would kill him at the start of the second game, maybe towards the end however removing him from the third game. As for the planned trilogy and the potential of continued games past that point, I think they will still make the trilogy assuming the second game doesn't bomb or the company goes under due to economic pressures, but I don't think they will do a fourth game or more in the way it was originally implied. I think if a fourth game were to come out they might do something like a prequel, covering the events of the Mass Effect novels concerning Captain Anderson and Saren when Anderson first tried out to be a Spectre. Or maybe cover pivotal roles in galactic history that have been discussed such as the Quarians invention of the Geth and their subsequent revolt which could be a game in itself even if it would be a prequel in a way. Then assuming the Geth weren't wiped out in game 2 or 3, then game 5 could close the chapter on the Geth by finally destroying them or reconciling them with their creators, and maybe finally finding the Quarians a new home other than the migrant fleet. And maybe this time, Shepard will get lucky with a Quarian, b/c I wanted him to hook up with Tali in the game not the two available options.

I wouldn't hold my breath. To be honest, I think they tried "Really" hard with quarians to make something in the game that you...couldn't bang. I said this to Mugen before, but I think it's really likely you'll end up killing off Shepard anyway in some endgame morality choice. (Seriously, every game is doing it).
I'm just praying that the game will have as much if not more replay value. I need something to stall me while I wait for the third game.

Well at least the second article finally explains the rumors about Mass Effect 2 being on PS3, it seems like that's more a decision made by EA since they have so many titles with Sony as opposed to a decision made by BioWare prior to their being absorbed by EA which would have resulted in ME2 being only for X360 and PC. But while all that information was interesting, I really was hoping for more about the storyline and gameplay rather than an interview about how being part of EA will affect Bioware.

Try checking out the game's official forums. Developers post pretty often in user threads that hint off on what's going to be expected.
Did you know achievements are going to have an "in-game effect"? Apparently, you can check what each one you unlock does in the main menu.
Also: Jesus christ, Mugen. That was a landslide for me, actually. I had no clue there was a Mass Effect book--I have to buy it immediately. Also, this whole Cerberus side-quest pisses me off--I've beaten the game six times and I've never found it! Aah!

We've been making a lot of tweaks to the combat systems, I'm not going to get too into specifics... but I think you will enjoy some of the improvements.

@Dolly- you'd probably get it cheap from Amazon.com.

Or if you don't really want to read the books, go to wikipedia. they've got a very detailed synopsis of both books negating the need to read them. As for the in-game achievement effects, are you speaking of the effects the achievements have within the first game or do you mean achievements from the first game will have an effect in the second game? I already knew about the ones from the first game and I have most of them, did the cerberus side quest on my first run through the game, it seems like one of those things that will carry over to the sequel if I remember correctly.
@Dolly - I do read the developer forums. They just don't seem to have enough info, but that's probably just b/c it will be a while until the game is released, I'm just being impatient.

When I said the achievements having an effect--I'm pretty certain it won't carry over your achievements from the "First" game. What I'm saying is that achievements in the second game will have an effect...in the second game.
And where the hell do you find the Cerberus quest line, anyway?
Corwin
03-13-2009, 03:00 AM
Well the fact that achievements in the second game will give in game effects is no surprise considering it already works like that in the first game. As for the Cerberus quest line, I don't recall, I found it during the normal course of my gameplay, I only had issues with the last 2 min of the chain b/c I walked by something without noticing, I looked up that part at IGN's guide I believe.

Yeah Dolly, if you go into options or something from the main game menu, you can look at all the achievements you've gained in the first game and what effects they have, like having specific party members in your group for the majority of the game, or using certain skills a specific number of times during gameplay will open up bonuses, killing a specific number of ppl with a specific weapon will open up that weapon skill for all classes, some are passive bonuses and some have to be specifically chosen when starting a new custom file. One of the achievements is the fairly obvious ability to hit lvl 60 after clearing the game once, another is a 10% exp bonus if I remember correctly, that you get for clearing the game as well(not specifically clearing it, but killing Sarin or something like that). Look them up and see what they do. It all means that to unlock everything you have to play through the game 3 or 4 times.

Good deal, I'll be sure to.
And hit lvl 60 in one clear? That's insane! I've beaten it 3 times and I'm lvl 58 o.o

Play it on hard with both of the exp bonuses, one is 10% and one is 5%, on hard with +15% exp I don't think it would be that hard to hit 60, especially if you do all the sidequests, and get all the extra mineral deposits that aren't needed.
