View Full Version : The race for the presidency

Ok folks, its election year in the good old U.S. Its the greatest reality show in the world with hundreds of millions watching and waiting to see which one of the evil corrupt politicians will be crowned "Most Powerful Man On The Planet"!
This years race is quite diverse then the rest have been. Theres a half-black muslim(Obama[Dem]), a women(Clinton[Dem]) and that ends the diversity. The rest happens to be old white men with power. So, after ignoring the old white men, who would u vote for between Clinton and Obama and why? If u cant vote pretend you can.
Obama so far is taking my vote. His voluntary health care plan is a lot better then Clinton's mandatory health plan. His plans for Iraq is a nice breather compared to the rest. And to be honest I don't want to vote for Hilary because I don't like the idea of the Bush and Clinton family's passing around the presidency like a frisby, even though having a female as president is something I'm rooting for.
Ariya

I have no clue, seriously. I was going to go for Fred Thompson, but sadly he dropped out. :/
Yes, I do know that I'm not quite old enough to vote yet, but I enjoy political discussions, especially elections. Loads of fun.

while a female president is definitely something that should come around soon I'm thinking a black president(even half black) should be first, add in the fact that he's muslim going into a job that was originally intended for christians, I know we're the land of religious freedom but let's face it, when have they elected a non christian? but hopefully a black muslim will put an end to a lot of the crap going on in the US right now, muslims and blacks alike will no longer have license to bitch about the christian white man keeping them down, trying to destroy their religion and their way of life, although seeing the fact that he's not only black but muslim as well makes me wonder how much work he'll actually get done in office, if it's just going to be a political sideshow where the press does nothing for the next 2-3 years except ask him how it feels to be the first black person in the presidency, the first muslim in the presidency, and so on like that, or will it become an advertisement for the muslim religion, now his presidency may be nothing like this, but there is the possibility, although in the end I do agree w/ leerock about the clinton family throwing the presidency around like the Bush family did, 15 years from now their daughter will be running our country into the ground too at that rate
Crymson

I don't like Obama because I cant figure out where he stands on a lot of issues. I like Clinton's mandatory health care, because it puts the cost on big business, not on the average tax payer. Further, she's been in politics a lot longer, she knows how the game is played. further, Obama is the most liberal man in america, while Clinton has tried to walk a more moderate ground. We need that. we need someone who can get both parties working together on the same side, otherwise the USA will fail. I'm very afraid of Obama's very fast pull out tactic for Iraq will create an even worse government then the one we took out. Maybe even Iran invading. then we would really have a problem.
Corwin, I would like to point out as a Christian, that there are a lot of politicians who say they are Christians because it will win them certain votes, but their lives do not reflect that of a follower of Christ. I can't say for certain they are or not, but both Bill Clinton and W Bush have claimed it, and neither of them have been very Christian.
Corwin

I know that Crymson, I'm just saying that the appearances leading into the presidency have always been rich white christian landowners, it would be a nice change of pace

leerock89
02-26-2008, 01:31 AM
hey youngin! to be american is to be able to vote for wat u believe in! thats wat the founding fathers of this nation wanted for its people. true, not voting is an option as well, but people that dont care is wats making the whole process a mockery. why do u think other nations laugh at the us? at first it was cause of our process of voting and now its our lack of interest in wat makes this country run. at least show some interest in the world around you. even though your one indiviual in many wat happens to the many effect u as well.

everybodys lying so i dont no wat to believe in,i mean look at george bush, thats a fine example
I like where Obama stands on schools, health care and the war. I also like how he's seems a little more genuine then other pres candidate in previous years.
Not so much into Hillary since a couple years ago when she stood alongside with Jack Thompson and belittled Video games and gamers, saying they were all indifferent to violence and that video games are evil, well in a nutshell anyway.

//everybodys lying so i dont no wat to believe in,i mean look at george bush, thats a fine example//
true, but let me guess u dont trust him cause of what u see on tv and wat happened at 9/11. otherwise he was a pretty good president. he did land the nation in one heck of a debt but theres some policies he started, that, even though we wont see them in affect for awhile, will do this crounty alot of good. for presidents and high ranking politicians u have to go behind the scenes and try to see wat their doing to affect our nation. on the other hand he made terrible jokes, didnt know how to speak in public when he first started, and looks like a fool! as a person i hate him but as a politician he wasnt all to bad. and its a politicians job to lie to people. the better the lair the more money they have to do w/e they want. wat u want is a politician that actually gives a crap.
Crymson
02-26-2008, 01:58 AM
There is always something to consider, that the president will have to suffer for the policies of the previous president (ie, what Clinton did wrong Bush had to deal with, what Bush did(does) wrong McCain or Clinton/Obama will have to deal with, etc).
The reasons politicians lie is because we don't like the truth. Americans want to hear nice things, great things about peace, love, and low taxes. we don't want to hear the truth about war, corruption, and political maneuvering. Look at what John Kerry did, told everyone exactly what they wanted to hear, even if it meant changing what he stood for at every rally.
And you know, maybe socialism isn't such a bad thing. You all seem to have a problem with rich white men, liars, and people who are bought and sold by big business and labor unions. so why not socialism? (Though maybe that needs its own thread)

straight took the words out of my mouth. thats why americans are considered prude and stupid. they bitch and scream for the truth, freedom of speech and wat nots but when they get it they turn violent wanting someone to blame for the smallest thing and making it very hard to the people trying to work for them to do their job right.
Ariya
02-26-2008, 02:11 AM
Socialism = Higher Taxes
Higher Taxes = Unhappy Americans
Plus, I just don't think Hillary is right for the job. I mean, it would be great to have a female president, but this is not the time. With the War, future war debt, etc. I don't think she'll know how to handle it. Keeping our troops over seas is hella better than having terrorist attacks over here. Think about it, do you want to bring the soldiers home and have Terrorist fighting over here, or do you want to keep the troops in the Middle East keeping us safer over here?
Crymson
02-26-2008, 02:13 AM
So you want McCain. Obama wants a complete pullout in 12 months. Hillary is either 24 or 36 months. I can't remember which. either way she's got a longer time table.
Ariya
02-26-2008, 02:16 AM
I guess I want McCain, then. But really, my guy dropped out of the race.
Crymson
02-26-2008, 02:21 AM
My hope would not be that you vote for who I want (well, I do but...) that anyone voting researches the candidates and makes an educated decision.
anyway, Hillary wants to pull out by 2013 (thats 5 years from now, for the math challenged). And Obama is for a pullout in 16 months.

For one thing, I doubt keeping soldiers in Iraq is actually going to ward of terrorism in the US. If anything they may hate us more because we're over there. Come on, there really isn't any way to physically fight terrorism. Your best bet is to raise people's standard of living, so they are not so desperate that they are willing to die for their cause.
As for higher taxes, if you want things you have to pay for them. You want good roads, it costs money. You want decent schools you have to pay for it and pay the teacher's well enough that they don't leave. You want health care for everyone, someone has to pay for it. This nation is already insanely in debt. Do we really want to add to that debt by lowering taxes. Are taxes really that bad. I agree the tax system needs some serious work. I also know that national debt probably seems like it doesn't really matter to most people, but if the people we borrowed all this money from decide they want it back, we would be in very serious trouble. Do we really want that kind of power in other people's hands?
Crymson
02-26-2008, 03:54 AM
do you realize that the US government can put the decimal point anywhere they want in the budget?

America is the world police and they arent doing a good job of it. thats it i said it. GO AHEAD BIG BROTHER!! DO WAT U CAN TO ME!!
and america is incredibly rich. they just say that they aint go no money cause most of our taxes are actually ending up in politicians pockets for their own purposes. they really dont need more from us. i mean look at social secruity. where does all that money go when people die before they retire? i mean the government actually charges the deceased family members for the deceased.
tangaloor5
02-26-2008, 04:03 AM
World police, yeah right.
Does america really care what happens in other countries, I think not.
Also, I agree politicians are almost all corrupt and money grubbing sobs.

you do realize the US is in a 9 trillion debt right now do you?
Well I'm a Republican I really don't like Obama or Hillary. Universal Health Care I believe won't do jack it doesn't work in Canada really don't think it'll work in the US. If one of those two get into office and withdraw troops way before we should then Al Qaeda will take over Iraq then we will be in Iraq again. Clinton wants to get rid of private sector which I think is frickin retarted, not too mention the tax increase. I don't like Obama because I don't know (pardon my french) where in the Hell he stands, and of course the tax increase. I wouldn't mind having a female president or a black president I just think those two aren't up for the job.
Patriot Act I like because thanks to it we have stopped terrorist cells in the US. American's need to realize if they want the government to protect them then they should realize some privacy needs to be taken away. If you have nothing to hide then don't complain about it.
well it looks like the majority of the people prefer obama over clinton. gj folks i say its the right choice. now lets hope he makes it and hope that mccain loses to him in the finals.

Too early to say. Nader is back in the race, and that will help McCain. It will also help McCain if Obama wins, because he is so liberal, and McCain is a moderate Republican. Hillary has her haters, who would vote for Stalin first, but she also has just as many people who would vote for her before anybody you could come up with. Obama is very liberal, which means he will alienate the moderates and slightly left (liberal).
It will also matter who is the VP. If McCain is smart he'll pick Huckabee, as that should ease the heads of the Republicans who are far too conservative. Obama needs to pick someone more moderate to make the rest of us feel more comfortable.
