This is an interesting little tid-bit. The very well received Half Life (By Valve Entertainment) is recreating the original game with the source engine.

So far it looks pretty impressive, but this brings up an idea. It's difficult to remake a game to be more modernized in visuals and style, and then you also have to have the audience to make it successful.

So, what games would you like to see revamped to be as visually stunning as today's games? For the sake of this thread, let's go with games that were made before the XBox, Ps2 and Gamecube.

That's been in the making for a long while, I remember waiting for hours for the 1st trailer.

Oh, wish they made a remake or new Dino crisis, also it would be great if they did and upgraded Metal Slug X.

I remember being a part of the hard many hours that went into developing a little project called "Chrono Resurrection" anyone who knows this name remembers the hype and anticipation we had going on, only to have good ol Square kill the project and threaten us with a lawsuit if we continued. I love Square's early games like FF 1-7, Super Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger. But after they crushed such a great project and gave us a crappy DS port excuse of a remake instead I have come to strongly dislike Square.
Tears come to my eyes when I look back at what could have been...

Well of course nowadays, companies are seeing more instant gratification in just re-releasing the old games, rather than remaking them. Things like the Wii Virtual Console, Xbox Live Arcade, and Playstation Network offer the old games downloadable as they originally were, and it takes little effort to put them up, and they make anywhere from $5-20 per download which turns out to be massively profitable.

Each game generation had it's technology come, and simply redoing the graphics for a game might not always be the best idea. In fact, the old school style graphics and gameplay might be what makes the original game so novel, but often it turns out to be pretty great. Some awesome games that should be remade...

I'd like to see Metroid II: Return of Samus redone for the DS, that would be pretty awesome. A true sequel to Kirby 64, not the same game but a new one with the same type of power mixing abilities and setup, would be cool as well. I've always wondered what it would be like if they re-envisioned the original Legend of Zelda (or even Zelda II) with the 3D gameplay like Ocarina of Time too. And with the Smash Bros games giving them popularity, why not get some new-school remakes/sequels of Ice Climbers and Kid Icarus!

They need to bring back legend of the dragoon back b/c that was one of the most epic ps1 games ever.

I would like to see the original 2 Metal Gears remade for multiplatform. and even though it has been said i think the remake that square says they are making will be bad ass. I also think that the games that were really popular like the games listed should not be remade because A) there is a big chance that the companies will screw it up and ruin it and B) it was part of what made the games fun for their time and yes remakes are only done for the money.

the Xbox classics released via marketplace on Xbox live are riddled with bugs, not very good ports IMO. I purchased Fable and Ninja Gaiden Black, and they're very glitchy, poor frame rates and ruin the experience...

Even though it is not that old there were rumors of shadow of the colossus being revamped b/c it was so amazing but the rumors faded pretty fast but i would love to see that on the ps3.

I thought the hype was that Shadow of the Colossus was getting a sequel, not a remake. As for Legend of Dragoon, I'd love to see them port that to a current next-gen system with updated graphics and maybe some control tweaks, and I'd really love to see them finish the sequel that was in production a few years ago, I remember they had a few of the screenshots out from the cutscenes already, not sure why it got dropped though considering that game is a classic.

I'd love to see a remake of Xenogears, perhaps with a translation that wasn't full of utter fail. Though, the bad translation was a very memorable part of the game...
