Most Famous Anime

I started thinking about this and began to wonder, I know there are some anime's that everyone seems to love, and some that no one really seems to know, but I thought I'd ask the question, what do you think is the most famous anime of all time, this could be b/c it has the largest fan following or b/c it was incredibly influential in the development of the anime genre, but I am looking for only one answer from each person, no dilly dallying, no waffling on the point, I don't expect you to do something like choose from among multiple series of the same anime like choosing amongst the Dragonball trilogy, you can just say that and it's ok, for me personally I think it is the Dragonball trilogy as it is famous and influential, so what is everyone else's thought on this, and feel free to expound on why you think it was influential if that's the case, I wouldn't mind hearing that reasoning as well

Well I think Sailor Moon is/was one of the most known anime in the world and the Dragon Ball trilogy too.
These to are the probably the most known anime in the world because they were quite decent at their time, Sailor Moon for the girls and DB for the guys, even thow when I was little I liked Sailor Moon too

im going to have to go with Dragon Ball series... i dont think that there is another anime in the world that has been watched as much as that one. and for its time it was a ground breaking series. and its still better then alot of series today even tho it may suck to some ppl because they have seen it 75839374 times, its still good.:)

Ya I'm going to have to say that the Dragonball series is the most famous for how many people have watched it at least. But Pokemon is more widely known I mean even my parents know what pokemon is but they have no clue what DBZ is and they have no clue what anime is also they hate cartoons in general.... ya we dont get along very well.:(

that's surprising ariya seeing as Sailor Moon is one of the more famous anime's out there, I mean w/o the kind of fame and profit they made the series never would have gone on as long as it did, although I think we can also admit it's fame was through young girls and dirty old men

yeah the guys know what it is, they've probably watch the unedited form in all it's fan service nudity, they just don't want to admit it to a live girl and then be laughed at by one of the few women they actually speak w/ in the fear that they might never touch breasts in their life w/o paying for it

yeah sailor moon was the big time girl cartoon only people i knew who watched it were girls. the boys had all the dragon ball sereis i dont know anyone off the top of my haed who wont admit to watching at least one saga from the dragon ball series out of the boys atlest.

But back on topic yeah i complete forgot about pokemon, i have mostly just phased it out of my head and dont think about it as anime anymore. but i guess i needs to be counted and most popular/well known anime.

Ermmm I watched Sailor Moon but I'm not like that O.O
Well maybe because when I was watching it I was like what? maybe 6 years old?and that series was the only japanese anime that was aired here at that time.Damn compared to Mikey Mouse and Daffy the roasted duck those girls rocked lol.Besides I remember wanting to become just like the Black Tuxido w/e guy.
Damn that was embarrassing adimitting it.

I think Dragonball, since it was huge in its time and still is easy to find. I also saw it on tv not long ago.
Pokémon was very popular, but only for a short while, and i have never seen anything but a little of the first "season".

amongst parents and kids, pokemon and yu gi oh. but overall I'd probably say dbz, not as many care about the original dragon ball I think, and dbgt kinda bombed in comparison. I'd say astro boy, but it's kinda dated compared to the newer series.
