We live in troubled times i am a victim of these times. My credit was shot out due to the major credit bail out a while back i was forced to quite college where i was going to become one of you next faithful animation writers. Now that i have no school to strive on and a major amount of college loans over my head i can't even find a decent job that will keep me so now i have decided to use my last resort and joined the military. So my topic of discussion for this thread is. Who has the major recession effected your lives and how are you striving through it?

My family's pretty well off actually. My mother had to start working again after being out of the work force for maybe 8 years, and it's been about the 3rd year she's continued to work. We don't eat out as often as we do and we've been looking into ways to cut down the costs of our bills, but we still get by rather well.

I'm still looking at a job over the summer, but that's more to pay my father back for paying for my college tuition.

I feel like a loser reading your post... I... SUPPOSE... my family is well off... but I got sick of school so I dropped out and am planning on getting a GED and joining the military... part of me says the Military is what I've always wanted to do but the other part says I'm using it as a last resort... I guess I just need time to think... but I don't have much since I'm 17 and I'm planning on joining when I turn 18... (in October) -_-'

Why did you even joined the army? Its better to live poor but free than having a chain around my neck and getting thrown to another country to die, if you can't afford college, try looking for a scholarship, if you can't get one, then get a middle class job, save up and go to college.

that goes back to my point because of this reccesion i can't hold a job i can get one easy but i get laid off after a week there becase they can't afford to keep me there they just use me as a quick fix. i don't want to join the millitary but it seems to be the best route to ride out this ressesion besides that once i come out they will give me a full ride scallership "GI Bill" to go to any college i want

Well, i guess i can see why you chose to join, on the other hand, now they own you, and in the case of a war you'll be of the firsts to be drafted.

Well here in Hungary I can say we are ok, though I won't go to my last year school trip
:( My mum asked me if I want to go to the training camp or to class trip. The gas problem ( maybe you have heard of it) in Europe what made our december gas bill twice expensive it was around 25000 HUF now it costed 40000 HUF it's nearly the half of my father's salary. The prices are rising (though it already happened the past few years, now it's ridicoulus) so we need to think about priority what is more important, what we should buy.

There were gas problems inthe USA too? I was reffering to that incident when the russians turned off the gas and whole Europe was cut of the gas and everyone tried to use their own countries reserve gas. We had big colds at that time.

well no troubles as of yet. It's difficult for me to say, as my industry has slow and fast periods and while people are blaming the lack of work on recessions and such, the truth is this is a slow time of the year. So far it's just been a buzz media word around here, but my dear country apparently isn't suffering like most others are.

Tough times?? No such thing really. Time doesn't care about us or the economy so I'm sure it's doing just fine.

Im 23 and still living at home. I want to move out on my on but since the economy has sunk dam apt prices out hear are horiffic. My family is doing just fine all thnx for doing 20 years in the military. For me to do as good as my family Im going to have to make sacrafices and doo pretty much what they did. Though right now Im trying to get into law enforcement and at the same time do 20 years in the National Guard. When retirement comes around Ill be in good stance Im sure of it, however when my 2 years is up come 2011 and I have not progressed from where Im at, Im going to cut my losses and just go active and join the military. Yea its a hard life, but it pays off in the future.

They'll do that anyway if they bring back the drafts.
As for college, you can apply for Finacial Aid, such as FAFSA. I did that even though I'm considered to be slightly below the poverty level. That Pel Grant helped me out a lot.

What, dude? Are you trying to give him morale support by trying to say you've been in a worse position... or?

Or are you talking about chickens or something =\
