Honestly? They're most likely the easiest ones to play, and tend to have the best graphics.

I don't think you can actually say that shooters either fps or 3ps are the most popular, it just seems that way b/c shooters tend to be the most easily accessible for the casual and new gamers. For more serious gamers tactical and rpg's are more popular I think.

Not every praised game is a shooter. Not every shooter is a good game.

I agree with corwin on this one. Shooters are for people who like to go through games fairly quick and don't like stories to the games they play. But rpgs and tactical are for people who like to take their time and think things through. And besides CoD4 and Halo were the reasons for shooting games to win most of the awards. Oh and several rps are also shooters.

I play both types of gamesand what about Metal Gear Solid that is technicly a third person shooter but it has a long story.

MGS is maybe the best game I've ever played.
Excellent plot.
Cool characters.
Stealthy action.
Survival strategy.
And the most important thing.. THERE'S A CYBORG NINJA!!. A must-have in any game.
But I like stupid shoot 'em all games like The House of The Dead too x3
