I like dubs, but sometimes the voices in them are so horrible or the editing so extensive, that the only way to watch the anime and really appreciate it is to watch the subbed version, generally w/ my own collection of anime I watch them w/ eng dub and the second set of eng subs which are usually unedited translated subs

oh I'm back to vote, and yeah subs are hard to read intially, I know my sister has a really hard time since she is dyslexic, but that hasn't stopped her from watching some subbed anime, although I will admit it's mostly me reading them to her, but even I had issues w/ subs initially and still do occasionally, and I read quickly, but after a while you get used to reading them, and you suddenly find you like or at least can deal w/ subs, but yes I do occasionally try to post dub stuff to be nice to ppl like her w/ dyslexia, it's just not feasible as most series we have on the site don't necessarily have dubbed versions yet, or require some self sacrificing, independently wealthy person to buy tons of eng dub dvd's they may or may not want, and rip, cut, and upload them to servers and maintain giant numbers of files so that we don't have broken links on the dub stuff

yeah i look for dubs first then i check the subs and pick the ones that are easier to see

I like the subs. Some of the dubs are terrible, or they just don't sound right to me. Plus, I'm starting to learn Japanese, so having the subs there helps a bit.

If the dubs are good, definitely dubs. But, as some people have pointed out, some dubs the voice acting sucks. For me its an issue of the art. As an artist I want to watch the show, carefully. If I have to split my attention between the subs and the art, Then the art goes under appreciated.

what I find funny is that while the majority of otaku seem to want subs for everything, if you ask around you'll find most of them still watch certain series like DB, DBZ, DBGT, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, and a few others all in dubbed versions, and not necessarily b/c the jap voice actors sound stupid but b/c we all grew up watching those dubbed, it's what got us into this life, although I will admit some series the only way to really watch them is subbed, Eyeshield21 is a good example, the jap voice actors sound great, but the eng voice actors just sound horrible, Negima is one that kind of sucks for voice acting whichever way you go w/ it, but if you truly love anime it shouldn't matter if it's dubbed or subbed, you learn to live w/ it if you love it

I'm usually always for subs, mostly becuase as mentioned before they cast the voices so horribly exceptions to this however are:
Scrapped Princess - I can't actually watched the subbed ones now that i've watched the dubbed one
Ah My Goddess - Same deal as Scrapped princess
Any other anime that has a girl\little sister\childish person with that annnoying japanese voice. >_> I can't stand that voice.

i prefer dubbed anime. and i can even deal with some not so great voice overs, as long as its not terrible its fine. some animes are ok subbed but i still wish they were dubbed lol.

I tend to like whichever one I happen to watch first, unless the voice acting is truly awful. I just get attached to the voices and the other version sounds weird.;)
I really hate it when they chop up the US release, I don't like missing out:mad:.

Good point. If I start watching a series one way, I want to finish it that way. the same for sequels (Gundam SEED dubbed, therfore Gundam SEED DESTINY dubbed. even though some of the voice acting sucks [cagalli])

yeah in a truly perfect world things would work out that way but with the way they just up and take episodes off due to infrigment or what not it becomes very hard to find a series that are all the same (dub-subbed). we do look for and try to get them the same but sometimes we just have to use what is avialible and try to wait until they come out with new ones agian then we try to update to what the veiwers want. sorry if this sounds a lil harsh.

I like dubs alot better than subs simply because I only have to pay atention to the actual anime and not read then look at the cool animations. But it doesnt bother me if I watch subs that much cuz I'm a fast reader and I understand a little Japanese also so that helps a bit.
When I first started to watch Anime I only wanted Dubs, Then I started to come across certain episodes I could only find sub-titled and was force to watch them. Then I started finding series I wanted to watch in only subs and when I would stumble across an episode in english I though the voice overs were fake and did not flow. Now after watching mostly subs I cant watch them in dubs without knowing where they most likley changed some of the translation. So, I vote Subs all the way.

I started watching anime with subs.So I guess that's why I like subs more that dubs.Right now I try to avoid dubbed anime.Plus I can understand most of the conversations in japanese so I guess it helps if I watch it with subs, subs also help me improve my english.Even thow I try to avoid S-S subed anime, they'r kinda off with the translations. The only dubed animes I watch are the one's currently on tv, even thow they're italian dubed.

Very few companies go to the effort it takes to create truly good dubs, so i watch probably nearly all subs. When a show has a large budget (its been better with more recent series, larger budgets) the dubs tend to be done correctly (Champloo and Bebop come to mind, Samurai 7, as well as the Myazaki movies).
However there is one major problem with subs, (for those of us who don't have any problem reading them) which is that you loose some of the dramatic effect. Often times a character will deliver a speech only to pause at the end and then say the killers name or what have you, but in subs you often loose that, which is really unfortunate.
however, i find most series dubs totally intollerable, and always watch subs if i can. i recently saw an episode of bleach and naruto in dubs, oh my god, they sound horrendous.

I like the subs. Some of the voices on the dubs are horrible. I was watching Rurouni Kenshin, which is a samurai anime, and the owner of the inn sounds like she came from Alabama with her southern American accent.

I will prefer original voice works with subs. Reason is original voice work carries not only its message to viewers but also emotions and feelings... the dubs i have are somewhat "monotones"...

id have to go with subs cause the episodes come out in subs so you get to see them faster.

original voices all the way. for anything, in any language. you cannot attempt to recreate the atmosphere that the original actor/actress had. even if you cant understand what they were saying. just l2r.

Hello,
Worst subbed voices animes: Trigun and Saiyuki
I love subs and dubs because some subs voices don't match the characters and visa versa.

It depends really, some dubs are just... Wrong. *Cough* One Piece. But they do let you concentrate on two things... Like... Playing Pokemon. But subs are usually further ahead.

I really prefer subtitles myself. Like in Elfen Lied, dont even go near the dubs. When comparing Naruto with dub/sub, it becomes a bit harder however, the dubs are done really well, but it still seems kind of fake.

totally, If I see something subbed and I dig it, then see it later and the voices are all horrible or timed bad then it ruins it. case in point: naruto. they destroyed those voices when they dubbed it. now it's subs or nothing. plus I'm slowly catching up with japanese.:ramen:
pick one, stick with it.
I prefer subs, however there are some that I will watch again in dubs. The only reason I like dubs is because I can lay in bed and be lazy and watch anime without reading. So that is usually a just before bed type of thing but still I usually tend to watch subbed anime. Also, I enjoy it being subbed because it helps me to learn Japanese by reading what they are saying. I have trouble with some, because some animes the subs are so bad that I can barely read it, and if its in the middle of a series it just happens to be by one fansubs group who doesn't do it well I end up having to pause and play a lot during a single episode just so that I can read it.

If I watch online, I prefer sub, because the translation is quite good... But mostly the anime that I bought have terrible subs.... So depress... But still I can understand the story..
For dub, I have a bad impression of it.... Coz I have once watch anime with dub, it hurts my ear a lot... I dont know which anime have a good dub, but I dont dare to watch dub anime again....
So, I prefer sub more than dub...

Hmm I can go either way. It depends on how good the dubs are. If they're crappy stupid things that make me wanna pull my hair out (I shall not mention names) then I will go for subs. But I don't freak if either way usually.

I prefer subs, but dubs are okay as long as they are very professionally done and the voices aren't totally weird. Funimation does pretty good dubs, so I don't mind watching theirs (dubbed Ouran comes out in less than two months. I'm so EXCITED!!!! The voice actors really seem to match the characters well...at least that's what it sounded like at the AX panel.
Subs. I dont like dubs or pro dubs.

I'll lean either way so long as the anime in question is good.
Although I can't stand bad dubs. It drives me crazy. It's essentially butchering everything good and wonderful about an anime with the over simplification of the plot, bad translations, and crappy voice acting.
Here's looking at you Love Hina dubbed.:pissed:
