well, if you're talking about yellow gold, then silver is definitely better, but if you're talking about gold in general, I really like white gold (it's just very very expensive). I'm not a big fan of the color yellow and it doesn't look good with my skin tone, so I don't wear yellow gold - I feel it is more ostentatious and can easily become gaudy. Silver has a lighter color that doesn't draw the eye as much. Jewelry is an accessory and should be worn to increase visual aesthetics of an outfit or the wearer, not become the center of all the attention. Silver takes more of a backseat than yellow gold.
