From what I've heard GIMP is pretty weak to Photoshop. I think I heard it like this "PS is GIMP on steroids". For being free GIMP is nice and probably fairly simple(gets the job done fairly nicely) but photoshop is very nice and should be since you pay, and they can have complete semester long classes devoted to photoshop skills(but may be about the same in how simple). But my opinion may not weigh much considering I rarely use them. Hope I could help a little ^^

Well many other people and myself consider photoshop to be better. My friend in school he uses Gimp more than photoshop and says there is no difference except photoshop has more filters (hu-rah) But gimp can create some rather nice works of art and photoshop can save in higher quality pictures.

A guy did this with gimp-> http://i44.tinypic.com/2vab8g5.png

I made a tutorial on making NT megaman.
Alright people, today we're making this.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman8copy.png

This is going to rather brief, so you will need to know your way around photoshop a bit, but if you have questions on one of the steps just ask and I shall try my best to explain.

Now to start.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman1.png

First we start off by drawing circles for the major joints in the person in their pose and connect them.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman2.png

Now what we'll do is throw in the details. That will make him start to look more like megaman. I made the head's basic shape in this step, because making the head will take some time and get it's own step.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman3.png

Now what we'll do is add the helmet features and eyes. I find that drawing lines in the middle of the face will really help you pinpoint where the eyes should go.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman4.png

Erase your lines.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman5.png

Use the pen tool to outline him. If you don't have it in your photoshop version download gimp. It has a free pen tool. That's what I used.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman6.png

Color it with solid colors now. Don't use shading in this step. It's a lot easier to do later on.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman7.png

Alright, how I did the shading was by making a new layer and using multiply on the areas that need shading with the original color. (set the brush to multiply not the layers. If you do the layers that's the only brush mode you can use really.) Now by making an additional layer you can just erase your color if you go over the lines. (or you could cut out layers in the image and lock them while coloring, but that's a bit advanced and I personally find it easier to do it my way.) I did a lot of messing with the eyes and face on mine. I also had to re outline it, because the lines became a bit weak.

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/tennisisawesome/NTmegaman8copy.png

Now I made the mistake of adding an additional finger, so I had to amputate on mine. You hopefully won't make that mistake and just have to use this step to mess with some things. There's your NT megaman. To erase the background like I did, just use the background erase brush.
